Home Posted on August 22, 2025

Carroll County DoC2Carroll County Correctional Sergeant John Sibya and Corporal Michael Pitts were recently recognized for “dedication and courage during an emergency event.”  During two separate incidents that took place at the Carroll County jail, each officer rendered aid to others with heroic actions resulting in saving the life of an inmate.

While doing rounds in May, 2025 Sergeant Sibya came upon an inmate attempting to harm himself. Through speedy intervention, the inmate’s efforts were thwarted, preventing his loss of life. In July, 2025, an inmate suffered a medical emergency causing his death. Corporal Pitts promptly interceded and administered CPR with the assistance of PrimeCare Health Services Administrator Jennifer Coigley, and the individual was brought back to life. Through quick thinking and immediate action by Carroll County employees, two lives were saved.

“We are all very proud of our hardworking employees who performed admirably during harrowing situations,” said Chuck McGee, Chair, Carroll County Commissioners. “The recognition is well deserved.”
